Stay Fit While Traveling: Workout Programs and Eating Healthy

Traveling often means packing on the pounds for individuals who aren’t paying attention to their health. Not only does traveling result in eating unhealthy meals, it also results in not working out. Most people don’t even realize just how unhealthy they are being while they are on the road. This can cause a lot of weight gain, especially for individuals who travel often. If you’re looking to stay fit while traveling, there are several things you can do!

Workout DVD

If you have workout programs online or on DVD, bring access to them with you! Most hotel rooms have DVD players or you can use your laptop to check in. You will easily be able to watch one of these courses from your room so you can get in exercise whenever it is the most convenient for you. Since you can watch and read whenever you want, you won’t have to worry about having a gym.

Gym

Almost all hotels have gyms inside them that are open for the majority of the day and evening. Leave yourself around 30 minutes per day to get in some sort of exercise. Whether this is on a treadmill, elliptical or any other piece of equipment is up to you. Even if you are just swimming in the pool that will help burn a considerable amount of calories. If you have a rental car and a gym membership for a chain gym; you may be able to travel to one in the city you’re visiting.

Exercise Bands

Exercise bands are excellent ways to build muscle and burn calories. The best part is that you can easily bring these with you because they don’t take up that much space. There are a lot of websites that have exercises on them and there are booklets that come with most exercise bands as well. Bands are great for all types of travel and don’t have metal in them so they can easily pass through security.

Eating Healthy

If you can, bring snacks with you while you’re on the road. Eating out for every meal of the day can easily cause weight gain that you weren’t expecting. Even salads can become unhealthy with the hidden calories and sugars inside of the dressings. Healthy snacks and looking up calorie counts when you do eat out are both absolutely essential. Skip the pastry in the morning and have a piece of fruit or oatmeal instead.

Online Exercises

If you’re bringing your laptop with you and have access to the internet, there are a lot of exercise options available. There are even free videos you can watch to squeeze in workouts whenever you have a few minutes. A 10 or 20 minute cardio workout can help you stay fit, especially if you’re going to be in a lot of meetings. This is great to have in a hotel or even a rented cabin/apartment.

With all of the different ways you can stay fit on the road, there is no reason you should have to worry about weight gain. While you can still enjoy eating some delicious meals and resting when you can; you should always be aware of your calorie counts. There are a lot of different ways you can keep track of the calories, carbs and fat you are taking in. Remember that just because you’re traveling doesn’t mean calories don’t count!
